Lapek Jaguang

Lapek jaguang in Minangkabau language or lepet jagung ini bahasa Indonesia, is an Indonesian traditional snack made from corn (jaguang, jagung = corn). I searched on the Internet and I found that this snack is usually wrapped in corn husks, but this one used banana leaves. I think because in West Sumatra people don’t usually save the corn husk, just throw them away directly. 😛

Kawa Daun

Yesterday my family brought me to try kawa daun. Kawa is Minangkabau word for coffee and daun is Minangkabau or Indonesian word for leaves. Kawa daun is a Minangkabau traditional drink, especially from Kabupaten Tanah Datar, Sumatra Barat. Kawa daun originated from roasted dry leaves of coffee tree. The dried leaves is boiled with hot water and poured to coconut shell. The taste was between tea and coffee. We went to Tabek Patah, Kecamatan Salimpaung. On this area (Jl. Bukittinggi-Batusangkar), we could easily find kawa daun stalls. We entered Pondok Goreng Alifha Kawa Daun, Tabek Patah KM 16, Batusangkar, Sumatra Barat. They served not only kawa daun but also goreng (assorted fritters) such as tahu isi (filled tofu), bakwan (vegetable fritter), and goreng tapai (fried cassava tapai)Size of the goreng was big, and the price was only Rp1,000, except goreng pisang (banana fritters) which was Rp1,500. Kawa daun was only Rp2,000. Very cheap and delicious. You should try them. 🙂

Paket Nasi + Ikan Mas Bakar

And finally, welcome back to Indonesia, the land where it’s really easy to obtain halal food, yay. 😀 That day Pike and I went to Pasar Baru, Bandung. I would like to buy some stuffs for my new living place. Previously I thought I would just have lunch at food court of Pasar Baru, but Pike didn’t recommend that. Then we went to Istana Plaza because I would also find some other stuffs there. We had lunch at the food court and I order this menu, nasi (rice) with ikan mas bakar (grilled carp). They said that the food vendor was newly open, so the price was discounted from Rp20,000 to Rp16,000. The fish was big, the sambal was OK, and the price was cheap, but what made me annoyed was that the food came 40 minutes after I ordered. Errrr.. 😡

In-flight GA0885 NRT-CGK, Garuda Indonesia

I returned to Indonesia on March 31st by Garuda Indonesia, and it was the same flight number and date (well, not including the year) to the flight I used 2 years ago. And here is a short story about this meal. 2 years ago, I didn’t order Moslem meal, but when I checked in at the airport, the staff asked me whether I would like to have Moslem meal or not, and I said yes. Maybe she asked that because I wore jilbab. Then on this flight, I thought I could ask for the Moslem meal later when I checked in. However, when I asked about the Moslem meal, the staff told me that special meal must be requested a minimum of 24 hours prior to departure. They asked other staff, and there were no more Moslem meal. They said they would try to find the vegetarian meal, and I added that Kosher meal was also fine. Finally they informed me that they couldn’t provide special meal. Well, no other choice, and I decided to eat any food they served (as long as it didn’t contain pork or alcohol) because I was really hungry. They provided two menus, and I chose meal consisted of roasted beef and tomato salad, chicken rendang, steamed rice and sauteed green beans with onion, bread and butter, panna cotta, and drinks. Some sources said that all of the served food in Garuda Indonesia are halal. But in my opinion, isn’t it strange that they still have Moslem meal whereas all foods are halal? Hmm.

Nutella Souffle

That day I was very busy packing my stuffs that would be sent to Indonesia. But I couldn’t stop thinking about making any dessert. And finally I made this because I’ve already bought nutella several days before. As Laura said, it tasted like mousse but in baked version. 😛 Well, this was my last baking in Japan.

You can find the recipe here. (I skip cream of tartar)

東京ばな奈のアイとサチ ココア&ミルク

Hi, long time no post. 🙂 I was really busy preparing my return to Indonesia so I had no time to post here, hehe. This photo was taken 10 days before my departure. That time I bought other Tokyo Banana’s product I wanted to try. For me this one was not so special. It’s just cookies with cream filling, and even the taste was too sweet for me. 😀

Kha Nom Toy

We also ordered a dessert at Chao Thai. “Kha Nom Toy (Thai style coconut custard)” was written in the menu. Actually most of the dessert in that restaurant contain coconut milk. I like the taste, but don’t think to eat much if you really concern about your cholesterol, hehe.

Kuai Tiao Tom Yum Gung

This was my second time having dinner at Chao Thai restaurant in Shibuya. I ordered this menu, basically tom yum gung soup with rice sticks. I feel the “kuai tiao” is the same to kwetiau in Indonesia, which is a kind of noodle made from rice. The soup was delicious, but there were too many noodle comparing to the veggie and the shrimp. And also, in my opinion, tom yam I ate at a Thai halal restaurant in Shin-okubo (now it moved to Tabata) years ago was more tasty. Sre still ordered Pad Thai. Evan also ordered this menu, plus rice. 😛

Chocolate Cornets

Chocolate cornets or チョコレートコルネ, I can say that this is the first bread I made all by myself and came out with satisfactory result, kyaaa. I felt really stupid when yesterday I realized that I could set my oven to 40°C, a perfect temperature to ferment the bread dough. Previously I thought that the lowest temperature I could set was 170°C. Therefore I was not so interested to make bread because I was so lazy to use another way to ferment the bread dough on this cold season, haha. This bread is still not perfect, but good enough as the first experiment, right? 😛 And the chocolate custard is very yummy. I like it, and the texture is better than the custard I made before for my mille-feuille, hehe. 😀

You can find the recipe here.

Chicken Biryani

We ended our trip by having dinner at Siddique, Shinjuku. I often eat at this halal restaurant, especially if I want to eat halal meat when I’m too lazy to cook. 😛 But this was my first time ordering the biryani. I usually order the curry and naan. My first impression: it burnt my tongue. 😆 I guessed because of the pepper and it’s still hot. But later I could adapt myself to the spicy taste. 😛 As far as I know, biryani is usually cooked by using basmati rice. But I thought this was made by using Japanese rice. You can see that the rice grain is different. However I prefer Japanese rice to basmati rice, so it’s better for me, hehe. Buuut, the portion was too much for me that  should struggle to eat it up. >.<
