The trip from Painan to Padang took several hours since my family drove slowly. 😛 We stopped in a restaurant to have dinner. It was a kind of rumah makan Padang (Padang restaurant), but in West Sumatra we never call a restaurant as rumah makan Padang. Padang restaurant has some different serving style. In this restaurant, after we were seated, we did not have to order. The waiter immediately served the dishes directly to the table. All of the plates of food are laid out in front of us and we only paid for whatever plate we ate from. If you need any additional food, you can simply ask the waiter to bring the food you want. So you do not have to eat all of the foods, unless you are able to, haha. It was also my first time to try gulai kepala ikan (fish head curry). I knew that many people said that it’s really delicious, but I’ve never want to try it before, until that day. And in fact, it’s really good. 😀
Yesterday I went to Bukittinggi and ate nasi kapau at Los Lambuang, Pasar Lereng. Los Lambuang (lambuang, lambung = stomach) is an area where you can find many nasi kapau and katupek pical stalls. Nasi kapau is the cuisine of the Minangkabau people, specifically from Kapau, Bukittinggi. The serving style is, after the customer is seated, he or she is asked which dishes they desire. The chosen dishes will be put directly upon the steamed rice or in separate small plates. You only need to ask at least one dish, then you will obtain that dish and other additional dishes such as sayur gulai (vegetable curry), sambal, etc. This time I chose gulai tambunsu. Tambunsu is typical food of Kapau made from beef intestines filled with egg mixture. It’s really delicious. Recommended. 😀
So this is my first update here after moving all of reisha.posterous.com contents here. Several days ago I bought fish that looks like fresh teri (not teri of course). I planned to try making pepes ikan but in fact I was really lazy to do that, haha. And finally I just make a kind of curry. I could simply name it gulai ikan, but let’s make clearer name, haha. So this fish name is チカ in Japanese, or Japanese surfsmelt in English. It is a kind of smelt fish. I don’t know its name in bahasa Indonesia though.
Dulu di rumah yang biasa digulai putih adalah kol. Saya gugling ternyata ada juga yang bikin ikan digulai putih, hoho. Patut dicoba. Di resepnya pakai ikan kembung sih, tapi berhubung saya pinginnya salmon, maka saya pilih salmon. Terus ikannya di resep digoreng, tapi si salmon ini cuma saya sautee dengan sedikit minyak. Terakhir lupa naburin bawang goreng, haghag. Gulai putih ini menurut saya gulai edisi malas. Kalau gulai biasa kan pakai cabe giling dan kunyit. Kalau gulai kuning levelnya di bawahnya dikit, ga pake cabe giling. Kalau gulai putih udah ga pake cabe, ga pake kunyit pula. :p

Pas acara penyambutan kohai PMIJ beberapa hari lalu dikasih bumbu kare halal sama Mbak Dhita. Hoho. Ingat masih ada sepotong daging di kulkas, akhirnya dijadiin kare aja deh. Kare ala Jepang. Praktis juga bumbunya, tinggal tumis bawang bombay dan bumbunya, kasi air, masukin deh bahan lainnya. Ga pake tambah bumbu-bumbu lain 😀
Hari ini lagi pengen ikan dan pilihan pun jatuh ke ikan ini. Trus berhubung lagi malas masak yang rada ribet, akhirnya pake bumbu instan red curry-nya Thai aja. Lalu inget dulu pernah beli kacang putih kalengan gitu. Niatnya sih buat eksperimen rendang, tapi ga jadi-jadi, ahaha. Akhirnya kacangnya dipakai ke sini. Kacangnya juga lunak sih, ga bakal bisa juga kayaknya buat rendang :p Nikmat banget tadi makannya, mungkin karena ikannya juga fresh from the supermarket. Sayang nasi tinggal dikit, dimasak lagi malas nunggunya, heuu.
Beberapa hari lalu saya beli curry paste-nya Thailand lagi, selain pengen nyoba, juga buat stok kalau lagi males masak yang ribet. Kalau dari bungkusnya sih si yellow curry paste ini buat ayam sama kentang sama nanas. Ayam sih ada, kentang kudu beli dulu, nanas kayaknya ga pake gpp. Tapi berhubung malas keluar beli kentang dan kalo pake ayam doank asa gimanaa gitu, akhirnya dipake buat telur aja, kekeke. Lagi pula ini telur masi banyak, mana expired pula minggu depan, fufufu.
Jadi, demi menghabiskan si mangga asyem, saya bikin ini. Nyari resep berbahan mangga muda banyakan sih nemunya something sambal mangga atau pepes something mangga muda. Tadinya mau bikin pepes sih, tapi asa males nungguin ngukus di dapur. Finally nemu resep kari. Yo wes lah tak bikin kari saja.

Pertama kali liat makanan kayak gini tu di Masterchef Indonesia. Trus pas Masterclass Ramadhan didemoin cara bikinnya. Wiii, langsung tertarik saya dan bertekad suatu saat bakal bikin, eaaa. Dan baru terealisasikan tadi. Masih cupu sih dibanding yang dibikin di Masterchef, hehe. Tapi gpp, udah enak. Ini pertama kali juga saya bikin semacam gulai yang rempahnya buanyak. Belum pernah saya bikin gulai pakai pala dan jintan segala, bela-belain dulu beli pas mudik. Dan kamar sukses bau rempah waktu si kari dibawa panas-panas masuk kamar. Serasa di Indonesiaaa *lebay* :p
